No Cup Joy for Battling U9 Teams

⚽️?Extra Time Heart?break?⚽️

Our boys never ever fail to surprise us. Today 7 boys became 7 warriors. Up against a tough team who were unbeaten since last August we knew it would be a good game. Without our “Rock” Will we had to change our normal format and today we saw some Warriors step up and show why “TEAMWORK” is so important.

Our first big change was to put Taylor in defence, it’s been a long time since he played in this position but he relished it, he didn’t moan, he just worked hard and did a fantastic job. His communication and link up play with Sam and Jude were excellent.

Our second big change was to keep the rest of the boys in a fixed position as with no substitutions as it was difficult to rotate or swap positions. We told the boys this at the start and to do their best. The risk was that the boys would tire in a high tempo game and this proved to be the case.

In a very tight game the boys played some great football and created more than enough chances to clearly win the game. Unfortunately we just couldn’t put the ball in the net, despite 4 or 5 one on ones with the keeper ?

The opposition punished us with a good headed goal late in the second half. But our Warriors didn’t let this affect them and they continued to go forward resulting in a stunning equaliser – a one two pass from Fin to Jude, Jude then took it by a player looked up and hit the ball from 20 yards, it flew into the top of the net to take the match into extra time ???

In extra time it was high tempo football with our tiring boys having the edge. After two failed golden opportunities to score, we fell behind to a goal that could have been given hand ball. However the referees decision is final and the goal stood. It really knocked the stuffing out of our tired Warriors and with it the game was gone.

Really proud of them ??????????

Fin and Ewan were outstanding in the middle and right wing, classy at times. Noah ran his socks off and battled superbly against their top player nicknamed “Killer”?, he will sleep well tonight. Jude put in a great display, goal aside he also made a stunning defensive tackle to prevent a possible goal. Sam was excellent, great comms and some great saves, but could do nothing with the goals. Taylor as mentioned did fantastic in defence, strong when needed, made some good runs forward and worked great with Jude and Sam. Kai kept really busy up front for us, made some good chances but just couldn’t convert them today, kept his head up and battled to the end.

Really pleased with our boys. Nearly all of them showing great character and maturity. I was also impressed with their fitness given they played 60 minutes none stop ??

Thanks to you parents for your support, not the right result but a great game to watch.

Onwards and upwards for the super Colts!!!!

Not for want of trying.

Today we entertained Trowell (a team placed 4 divisions higher than us) in a cup match, knowing that this was going to be a tough ask.

The boys started okay and had to defend pretty much for the first 10 minutes. Trowell had 4 big boys and were dominating the midfield, but our boys battled hard and stuck to the task. Lowdham started passing the ball and score a beautiful goal. This rocked Trowell, but they continued to press and a ball bouncing around in the penalty area innocuously hit Eesa’s hand and the ref couldn’t wait to point to the spot. Fortunately the penalty was put wide and justice was done.

Trowell got a deserved goal after a spell of pressure with a shot that Joe was unable to keep out. Then a bizarre incident where the ref failed to spot a blatant ‘hand of god’ handball and the Trowell player was then able to poke home. Worst decision of the season!

1 -2 halftime

In the second half we swapped formation to try and combat Trowell’s midfield dominance. And it worked a treat. Lowdham controlled the 2nd half and were creating a fair few chances. Against the run of play Trowell scored a long range goal, taking a 2 goal lead. Lowdham still in control scored another lovely passing goal! Lowdham then missed a couple of chances to equalise, but another long range shot from Trowell put the game to bed.

Final score 2 – 4

Well done boys a great effort!

Harry and Joe did well in goal and distributed the ball well. James, Brody and Ben worked there socks off in defence and were very unlucky. Eesa, Dan, Owen and Jack worked really hard in midfield and upfront. The whole team scored 2 cracking goals that would have graced any football match.

Thanks to the Barmy Army for amazing support!

We go again next week!

YOU COLTS!
