Reds show true grit to turn over Sherwood Whites.
Friday night and a rush to Southwell to pick up a couple of new player registration forms for Ramsey before picking up the temporary cards from Peter Burton in Calverton. 9.08 and Batesy, DJ and Ramsey chewing the cud in the Reindeer Sportsbar trying the United distillers malt collection. After a raucous night it was off just after the bells and a sound nights sleep. Saturday morning and two late call offs and the Reds down to the bare bones with 11.
After putting up the nets and filling up the rabbit holes, LC welcome Sherwood white with a squad of 15 or 16. LC line up with the King in goals, Camsterazi, Tobierski and Arbuckloa as a back 3, Wiggo, Buchanzini, Jonno and Joe Ashworth across the middle, G force in the hole and Frazola and Alexandro up front. No subs. With Tobierski and Joe Ashworth making their first appearances for 2 years and Frazola and Alexandro making their first appearances since coming back from injuries this was going to be a tall ask for LC against a lively Sherwood team.
The advantage LC had was that everyone was playing in a position they enjoyed as Ramsey had fitted the formation to the personel rather than trying to fit the personel into their usual formation and it worked a treat. The back 3 looked assured throughout the game and when the Sherwood forwards did get a sniff, the King was in awesome form. Wiggo and Joe Ashworth doing a great job as wing backs, and Jonno and Buchy stroking the ball around well in midfield with G force creating chances for The two strikers.
Alexandro a great chance to put LC one up within a minute but not realizing how much time he had and missing with his left foot. End to end game with both sides playing good football and LC finally get the breakthrough with a slick move involving G force, Bucky and Jonno ending with the ball being turned in by Big W. LC unluck not to get another before half time when Alexandro through but the keeper saving. HT 1-0
Second half an LC starting to tire and Sherwood cranking it up but solid defending by what is starting to be more of a back 5. Then up the other end and Buchy beats 3 and steadies himself before finishing cooly in the bottom corner. With Alexandro looking dead on his feet and Frazola hobbling LC were going to have to park the bus for the last half hour and park the bus they did. With 15 to go Sherwood finally work the ball into a good shooting position but the king pulling off a quality save and up the other end LC have a couple of chances to put the game to bed with G force just offside on one occasion and a couple of free kicks and a header slipping over or past.
Probably the grittiest performance of the season with everyone absolutely committed and working their socks off. The king MOM but Buchy looking like a machine rather than a mere human and all 11 awesome. Good entertainment for Dave Johnson and Dave Harget in the Directors box. You reds!
