U9 Black Friendly

Today saw the Blacks play an away friendly match against Sherwood Colliery U9’s, who are a division above us in Mansfield.

We knew we were in for a very tough match today so we needed to be on it from the start… unfortunately for us we were missing 4 strong players from our 11 man squad, which made formation/rotation/team selection very difficult, but we gave it ago against a very good team.

The final scoreline doesn’t reflect on how much of an effort the ‘team’ put in for each other today due to a few simple mistakes that cost us. But I was very proud of how the boys kept battling on till the end and never let their heads drop! Well done!

Switching defensive substitutions in the first half between Joe and Harry was a tough one for them both today, trying to deal with the speed, skills and pressure Sherwood were putting us under from the first minute left us very vulnerable at the back at times. In the Second half we replaced Owen with Harry who showed off what a cracking shot stopper he is! Joe dropped into midfield to deal with Sherwood’s attacks and battled well…

Owen was kept busy in goal in the first half pulling off some fantastic saves and was very alert to Sherwood’s attacks on goal. Owen then put in a great second half performance playing on the left wing showing off his skills, using them well to keep the ball and passed well…

Daniel was happy when asked to drop in to defence in the first half, he battled well to get tackles in, trying his best to distribute the ball out towards the forwards. In the second half Dan played further up the pitch out on the wing battling well throughout…

Eesa really got stuck in today from the first minute, he knew his role and picked up players, marked well, tracked back, got tackles in and never gave up…!

Cameron played out on the right in the first half and worked his socks off, tracking up and down the wing, marking well and had a few tough challenges on him too. The second half saw Cameron play up front which we started very brightly creating a lot more attacks than in the first half…

Last off Jack who again was asked to drop into positions he doesn’t normally play in given it his best! Put the challenges in, battled well and really had a good all-round performance, never let his head drop, a good role model showing others how a Captain should be…! A well deserved Man of the Match!

Well done to the World Famous ‘Barmy Army’ who got right behind our boys from the first minute to the last minute.

I’m sorry it wasn’t the usual outcome we are all used to seeing with the Blacks this season and that we weren’t able to play our normal passing game that we work on so hard, but I’m sure we will bounce back stronger to fight another day! #YouColts
