U9 Black Win Division Title
What a Day!
Lowdham Blacks made the journey to Nuthall to play Nottingham Knights in the Div 6 Play Off final to decide Champions.
Even before the match had started Lowdham could have been very proud of the achievement that they had made this season. But having been beaten 4 nil just 2 matches previous, by the very team that they were playing today, they knew that they had to be at their best to even think about coming away with a result.
The first half saw Lowdham play with a slightly changed formation with Harry Grobbelar in Goal, Ben Pearce and James Souness in defence , Brody Gerrard in defensive midfield, Dan Waddle and Jack Hoddle in Midfield, with Eesa Maradona/Cameron Baggio up front. We knew that they had 2 very good players and Brody was given the special job of man marking one of them, whilst Ben and James looked after the other.
Both teams started well enough but after 10 mins Brody had done so well that their star player went off. This allowed Lowdham to take control and dominate the chances. Despite having some very good opportunities it was goalless at half time. Good football from both teams though.
Lowdham started the 2nd half well and took the lead with a route one goal. A fantastic kick from Harry enabled James to thread the ball through to Eesa who calmly chipped the ball over the keeper for a super goal. Lowdham continued to dominate and scored another good goal. Dan and JB played their part in creating this after threading the ball through to James who broke clear and slotted home. With 10 mins to go Lowdham were looking comfortable until a long ball saw a very rare defensive mistake, gift a goal to the Knights. 2 -1 and nervy times ahead. The final section of the game saw the Knights press hard and Lowdham counter, with Cameron’s pace, from a defensive position. Lowdham were strong enough and as the final whistle blew it was the Colts and their Barmy Army who celebrated.
Well played both teams! It was great to watch such a competitive match.
There was 11 MOTM’s today. All the boys who are involved in the Black had a part in today’s win, no matter whether on the pitch or not. All the boy’s were absolutely brilliant and gave everything they had.
Thank for the opposition coaches, the Ref and all supporters from both sides.
