U9 Blacks in Penalty Thriller

On a cold January morning the Blacks Travelled to another away game (I’m beginning to forget what Caythorpe looks like) this time at West Park in West Bridgford. Lowdham found themselves up against a team two divisions higher in a cup game. It was going to be a tough ask!

The Blacks started strongly and passed the ball around well. The black created a few good chances but were unable to really work the Bullets GK. The Bullets came back into the game and pressed hard but were unable to breakdown the Lowdham defensive line. Lowdham again pressed and forced the Bullets GK into a very good save after a string of successive corners. 0-0 Halftime.

The second half was pretty much like the first with Lowdham pressing and then the Bullets pressing. The Bullets took the lead somewhat against the run of play. The lead lasted less than a minute as the Blacks rallied and hit back straight away with a goal from Cameron. Lowdham finished the stronger, but 1-1 at 50 mins meant that 10 mins of extra time was needed. Lowdham pretty much controlled the extra time period but were unable to find the breakthrough. 1-1 after extra time. PENS!!!!!!!!

James took the first pen calmly slotting the ball in the corner. Bullets replied scoring a good pen. JB took another superb pen to make it 2-1. Bullets hit a powerful pen to make it 2-2. Dan stepped up and smashed it in the corner 3-2. Bullets in reply did the same. Ben hit a good pen but it was saved!! Oh No!!!!!! Bullets step up and……… Blast it wide. Still 3-3. Cameron steps up and slots home Calmly. Bullets hit back with a good penalty! 4-4 SUDDEN DEATH Eesa steps up and hits the target and it agonisingly roles over the line!! Bullets step up and hit a good penalty…..but denied with Joe pulling off a top save!

LOWDHAM WIN!!!!

The Barmy Army go more mental than normal! Thanks again for your wonderful support.

Joe was solid in goal and kept out the last penalty to see the Blacks progress, The defensive duo of Ben and James meant the opposition had to try and feed off scraps (and both got high praise from the opposition manager), Brody in his new role was brilliant and deservedly got the MOTM, Dan, Jack and Eesa controlled the midfield with great effort and passing, with Cameron upfront showing speed and determination.
This sets up a home tie against either Wollaton Green or Trowell Blue on the 28th of Jan – Again higher league opposition.
BRING IT ON!!! YOU COLTS
