?⚽️Back with a Bang⚽️?

Thankfully our wonderful boys forget set backs quicker than us adults (learning for us all).

On Saturday morning they were really keen to get back on the pitch and treat us all to a fabulously entertaining game of footy ⚽️??

Pete and I took the opportunity to make a couple of changes and they worked really well, giving us a more attacking edge and maybe making us a little more open defensively, importantly it was a great development opportunity for the boys and team which worked out well ??

I took the opportunity to coach and observe with the spectators to get a different view of the game and changes we’d made and have to say enjoyed it ??

The game went to plan and with our boys gaining firm control early on we quickly went ahead with a cracking goal from Jude playing in his new position. He cut in from the left wing to close in on the goal and chipped the ball over the keeper, a great start and the boys deserved to be in front. We kept the pressure on and made some fine chances with Kai, Fin, Taylor and Ewan coming close. Noah smashed home a well worked second goal to put us comfortably in front. 2-0 and cruising……..and should have gone further ahead, however, after being put under a little bit of pressure and not making a clearance, the opposition pounced on an opportunity to get in front of our goal and despite heroics from Sam to keep the ball out they managed to bundle it over the line. 2-1 and half time.

The half time talk was easy, more of the same please as the boys had been great ?

The second half started the same as the first with our Super Colts on top, this was rewarded with two more goals. Ewan’s first was a fantastic goal. After being fed a good pass by Kai who had been fed by Fin, Ewan controlled the ball, beat his defender, then calmly rounded the keeper and placed the ball home in super style. His next goal was from a penalty which had to be given as Ewan yet again beat his defender but this time was brought down in the box, he hit a lovely strike into the top corner to give the keeper no chance.

A highly entertaining game, some new learnings based on the boys playing in different positions (Jude left wing, Kai up front, Fin Defensive mid) added to recent changes (Taylor right wing), help us to learn, apply and develop the boys and team.

Strong performances all round. Jude and Kai in their new positions did really well.

Sam, Will, Taylor and Noah put in strong performances, especially Will.

Ewan took full advantage of getting time up front and deserved his 2 excellent goals.

Fin yet again was outstanding, he adapted easily to his different position, he never gives up, battles well and created chances going forward as well as providing protection for Will and Sam in defence. Importantly Fin listens to advice and shows intelligence in applying this during the game. A lovely touch from Fin was when Taylor got hit hard in the face with the ball and was clearly shaken, Fin walked straight over and put his arm around him to comfort him ?????????. Week on week consistent top performances have earned Fin our Man of the Match ??⚽️

This weeks training star is Jude. Pete asked Jude to play in his new position at training last week, so he spent the rest of the week working on how to best perform in this position. He then had a cracker in the game creating a genuine threat for us going forward. More great listening and learning which is all we can ask for as coaches, well done Judester ?⚽️?

Well done boys, a fabulous performance and as always highly entertaining.

Thanks to all of the parents for your great support.

You Super Colts

U9 Black

I’m afraid it was just one of them games.

It was a great morning for football as the Black team looked to win the league by either gaining a draw or a win.

Lowdham started off well enough and passed the ball round like normal. Nottingham Knights pressed hard and forced Lowdham into some uncharacteristic mistakes. Unfortunately one of these mistakes lead to the first goal. Lowdham couldn’t quite get going and soon found themselves 2 goals down to a very good long range shot. Another mistake lead to the third goal as the Lowdham backline went to sleep and let the Knight break with a long ball and finish well. 3 nil at half time. Doh!

The Second half was much better and Lowdham carved out some very good chances, but our forwards weren’t their usual selves and failed to convert normal simple chances and the Knights keeper made some very good saves. Another defensive error lead to the 4th Knights goal and that pretty much sealed the games. Lowdham probably deserved to a goal or two but found that they were beaten by the better team on the day.

Games like this happen and this football. It marks as a good reminder that the team has come on so well but there is still so much work to do. Lift your heads up boys, we live to fight another day.

Well done Joe for getting the MOTM.

Thanks to the Barmy army! Your support was fantastic as always.
