Under 8 Reds ready to go!
Evans Halshaw Nottingham sponsorship event.
On September the 3rd, location Gunthorpe playing field the under 8 reds hosted a mini round robin tournament to celebrate the sponsorship deal between the side and Evans Halshaw Vauxhall Nottingham.
2 teams from Willow Wanderers and a very strong Holy Spirit team, along with the reds made up the event.
The reds started off with a strong performance against Willow Wanderers Wildcats with Ollie Henshaw (AKA Ollie Messi) bagging a brace coupled with some stout defending by Hugh Freeman (The Beast.) which helped the boys to a well deserved victory but more importantly an encouraging display.
Game two pitted the reds against the second Willow team (Dragons) and once again a strong performance led to a well deserved victory. Oliver Gale was spraying his trademark cross field missiles to the opposite flank and Harrison Hall along with Ben Warburton were resolute at the back, a young Martin Keown (Ben W) and John Beresford (Harrison) in the making to be sure. Finally Max Atherley put in the sort of performance that Jamie Vardy would have been pleased with, running the channels and putting himself about gamely until the final whistle.
Game 3 then pitted the reds against the stand out team of the day in a 30 minute game. Goals had been flying in all over the place in Holy Spirits opening 2 games and it seemed like they had Sergio Agueros nephew playing for them. The reds put up a battling display, Cole Deone and Benjamin Babiarz were up and down the field like a couple of jack in the boxes.
The boys were playing a team 3 divisions higher than themselves and had already played the usual 40 minutes of game time they are used to. BUT they did themselves proud, keeping Holy Spirit at bay for the final 10 minutes with Oliver Babiarz grabbing a goal that his all out football display deserved!
In all the day was a huge success, apart from the fact that it rained for the majority of the morning. Special thanks has to go to the families of all the boys, who helped run the day (without their help it would have been a non starter) and the coaches/managers, Adam Babiarz and Grant Deone who put in copious amounts of time and effort to coach, manage, referee and all the behind the scenes goings on that go unnoticed.
BUT the biggest thank you of all is to Evans Halshaw who kindly sponsored our new strips and training jackets which the boys are over the moon with.
